Scholarships

To mark our 40th Anniversary in 2010, JUGAS launched the JUGAS Education and Cultural Exchange Fund (JECF) with the primary objectives or promoting education and cultural exchanges between Singapore and Japan. One of the key initiative under the JECF is to provide opportunities for promising Singaporean students to further their studies in Japan through various scholarship scheme in collaboration with external organisations.

We are pleased to inform you that JUGAS now offering the following scholarships:

JUGAS - SJ60 Commemorative Scholarship 2026

General Information

1. In commemoration of the 60th bilateral relationship between Singapore (SG) & Japan (JP), JUGAS is launching our “JUGAS-SJ60 Commemoration Scholarship".

2. 3 scholarships will be awarded each year for 3 years starting from 2025 till 2027.

3. The scholarship covers stipends of SGD1000 per month for a maximum of 36 months.

4. Scholars are expected to serve as volunteers in JUGAS upon graduation as life-time member and be actively involved in ASCOJA events in Japan, as a representative of JUGAS during and after their studies.

5. JUGAS has close links with some of the Japanese Universities, including their English Language courses and can be of assistance in connecting students to the respective universities. However, this is not on an exclusive basis as it is still up to candidates’ own initiative to apply to their universities of interest.

Eligibility

1. Only Singaporean students are eligible to apply.

2. Applicant should be either at undergraduate or graduate levels from any year of their studies. However, the scholarships will only cover for 36 months or till the completion of their existing degree, whichever earlier.

3. Proof of acceptance into Japanese Universities is not compulsory at the point of application but confirmation of acceptance to Japanese universities is required for the disbursement of the scholarship.

4. Students with existing scholarships elsewhere are not eligible to apply.

5. Monthly stipend of SGD1000 for 3 years duration (or completion of their degree if earlier) of the course, subject to satisfactory grade performances. Number of scholarships targeted at 3/year.

Selection Process

1. Scholarship applications will begin from 10th February 2026 till 31st March 2026.

2. Shortlisted candidates will be informed by April 2026 and will be called up for an interview (in-person/zoom) by JUGAS selection panel.

3. The final results will be announced to selected candidates by April 2026. The selection outcome is final and appeals will not be entertained.

4. Selected candidates will be given a week to accept the scholarship. Failure of acceptance will result in scholarship forfeiture & being barred from future application.

5. Selected candidates can either start their degree by Sept 2026 or the latest by April 2027 for new intake. For existing students, they may continue their current course of studies.

JUGAS-Nagoya University Scholarship 

A joint initiative between JUGAS and Nagoya University, this scholarship offers high potential Singaporeans an opportunity to study at Nagoya University under the Global 30 Undergraduate International Programs. There are in total 5 different programs offered by 9 different schools available for applicants to choose from.

School term starts in 1 October.

Application period is typically in November to December for the following year’s October intake.

JUGAS/University of Tokyo Supplementary Scholarship 

A joint initiative between JUGAS and the University of Tokyo, this scholarship sponsors the return air tickets for deserving Singaporean students who are accepted into selected PEAK (Program in English at Komaba) Programs offered at the University of Tokyo.

MEXT (ASCOJA) Scholarship

The MEXT Scholarship is offered by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) to foreign students who wish to study at Japanese institutions of higher education. 

JUGAS is a member chapter of the ASEAN Council of Japan Alumni (ASCOJA), which is an international body made up of similar Japanese university graduates alumni associations from the other ASEAN countries. Member chapters of ASCOJA have been invited by the Japanese Government to recommend candidates from their home countries for both Research Student and Undergraduate categories of the scholarship.

As the MEXT (ASCOJA) Scholarship is fully administered by MEXT, the terms, conditions and scholarship benefits of the scholarship are the same as the MEXT Scholarship. In addition, MEXT (ASCOJA) scholars have the added benefits of becoming beneficiary students under the Asia Japan Alumni (ASJA) International. As a non-profit organisation supported by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ASJA International implements programs aimed at assisting international students, primarily from ASEAN.

Application typically opens from April to July. Interested applicants can submit their applications to either JUGAS or the Japanese Embassy in Singapore.

JUGAS - Kyoto iUP, Kyoto University Scholarship

International Undergraduate Program

JUGAS Scholarship is awarded for outstanding Singaporean students to study at Kyoto iUP, Kyoto University.

JCCI Singapore Foundation was established by the ‘Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Singapore’ (JCCI) in May 1990. It is the first of its kind launched among overseas Japanese Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The objective of the foundation is to support the development of arts, culture, sports and education in Singapore, through funds raised annually from donations by members of the Chamber.
